Sit and Wait

I’m currently working on a new collection artwork titled ‘Sit and Wait’.

Inspired by the Taoist concept of WU WEI – the act non-doing or striving for non-striving. The internet describes it as… ‘the cultivation of a state of being in which our actions are quite effortlessly in alignment with the ebb and flow of the elemental cycles of the natural world.’

I like to think of it as ‘Doing nothing is doing something.’ #darrenology.

I’m still exploring so below are some concept layout scribbles from my sketchbook. BUT if you can’t ‘Sit and wait’ for the natural flow of the world, I’ve got some finished works available on my shop.

Poems that I wrote

I’ve been busily working on my new little picture book – a collection of short poems that i’ve been scribbling and writing and re-writing overt the last couple of years (some actually date back over five years which is kinda crazy).

I’ve always wanted to do a little anthology ever since I read the Tim Burton book The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories (highly recommend it). I also had a really lovely book when I was little that I read A LOT called ’Theres an awful lot of weirdos in our neighbourhood by Colin McNaughton and described as ’A book of rather silly verse and pictures.’ which is great. Remarkably it’s still available to buy on Amazon.

Anyways, below are some of my work-in-progress illustrations.

Holiday doodles - Berneuil

Seven sunny days in the French countryside inspired a smattering of summery doodles.
